- 2:36Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson Service Manager Danny Wilson Talks Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI)From October 2024 – April 2025, members of the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) family of schools, including MIAT College of Technology, NASCAR Technical Institute, Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, and Marine Mechanics Institute, were rebranded as UTI.Danny Wilson, service manager at Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson in Phoenix, AZ, knows the value of Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) – he went there. Before attending MMI, Danny was apprenticing at a custom shop. The owner wanted to sell it and told Danny he would sell it to him if he went to MMI.So, Danny did. After graduating, he bought and later sold the speed shop.Since then, Danny has been a master tech, shop foreman and parts manager. He was an international trainer for Harley-Davidson covering the Asia-Pacific region. He moved back to Phoenix and started working at Buddy Stubbs as a service manager. The shop recently recruited students from MMI to work on a motorcycle build. The students work with master techs and get guidance every step of the way.Danny says all the techs in the Buddy Stubbs shop are MMI graduates. Danny talks about the advantages MMI provides, like how having the mechanical background from MMI gives you a very competitive edge when you're having to look for parts for customers over the counter or for technicians in the shop. Knowing how the bike functions and why things do what they do leads to a better service environment, Danny says. The curriculum at Motorcycle Mechanics Institute is geared toward all students interested in joining today's motorcycle workforce. Enrolling in MMI does not require previous motorcycle mechanic experience. Our students span from having zero prior motorcycle knowledge to those who come from a family of mechanics looking to further their abilities. For more information regarding motorcycle training programs at Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, visit https://www.MMITech.eduFor additional information into specific courses, tuition and admissions, see the course catalogs at https://www.uti.edu/programs/catalogsTo learn about Harley-Davidson manufacturer-specific advanced training at MMI, visit https://www.uti.edu/programs/motorcycle/specialized-training/harley-davidsonTo find the nearest UTI or MMI school near you, visit https://www.uti.edu/locationsMMI offers employment assistance to students and graduates.
